Detached and detaching
Barbara Noonan
June 2024
Lynn Hanson Gallery is thrilled to be featuring Detached and detaching, the latest collection of Barbara Noonan’s soft pastel paintings over watercolor washes. Depicted in a range from subtle palettes to vibrant hues, Barbara’s work describes the fleeting moment of reality and the blur of memory as it vacates from one moment to the next.
The series will intrigue and challenge viewers. Noonan draws us into a world of struggle as she attempts to keep her friend in this reality as her hippocampus deems different. Bowls are eerily afloat in space. A tea cup is tethered to the shadows and yet where is the table? Watercolor spills from one form to another in deep indigo as dishes await a meal. In one abstract trio of work, she uses warm, rich colors and bold mark making to interpret synapses firing.
Barbara is a signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Women Painters of Washington and the Camano Art Association. She has curated and juried exhibitions around the Northwest including the Edmonds Art Festival. You can find her award-winning pastels in regional NW collections, as well as galleries in Washington State and Florida and in the Museum of Northwest Art Auction.
