About the Artist
As a native of Kirkland, I love the moderate temperatures and green landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, and the ability to go between ocean to snow-covered mountains to eastern desert all in the space of an hour or two... well, it suits me and most of my work is inspired by local nature forms.
I have degrees in both Studio Art (emphasis in drawing/painting) and in Commercial Art. After graduating from Western Washington University, I worked for a number of years as a graphic designer, first for print, and as the industry developed, moved to digital illustration, user interface and interaction design. Even as I spent time in the digital realm I never lost my love of physical mediums!
About my work
While trained as a traditional oil painter, my true love (at the moment) are all types of water mediums. I frequently explore the themes of abstract pattern juxtaposed with very structured, detailed and “realistic” elements or subjects. The interaction and layering of these two opposites fascinates me, and I find the hours of multilayering paint to be part of my meditative practice. Whether painting trees, florals or wildlife , behind all my work is a combination of playful abstraction, flowing line and finely drawn details.
