Bio
Eliza Brown is a UK-born painter. She spent many happy summers on the Welsh island of Anglesey developing her love of painting, inspired by its wild, windswept beaches, traditional boats, and iconic lighthouses and cottages.
Eliza established her career as a painter in the UK after graduating from art school in Manchester. She has exhibited her works in galleries and group exhibitions across England and Wales before moving to the US in 2016.
Eliza now lives in Seattle, Washington, painting the Pacific Northwest and exploring its dramatic coastline and historic buildings, its breath-taking mountain ranges and rolling farmlands. Her richly colored still-life paintings continue to feature in these landscapes, defining her simple strong style.
Statement
‘I paint in acrylics and oils, using brushstrokes and sometimes a palette knife to build a depth of texture. I am inspired by the shapes and composition of naïve still-life paintings, which is crucial in creating a gentle sense of solidity in my work. I use color to affect mood and to awaken emotions and memories of things past.
I often use collage in my paintings, words or musical notes on ripped paper appear occasionally through the brushstrokes of paint, drawing the eye of the viewer.
My move to Seattle awakened my passion for experiencing the beauty of nature and the environment in which we live. Through my paintings, I want to highlight our connection with the earth that we borrow for a short time, I hope that they work as a reminder of our responsibility to care for it.’
