Compound Fractures
Matthew Lazure
Artist Statement
"In 'Compound Fractures', my desire is to reveal new personal and emotional visual narratives of the human condition inspired by, and incorporating, vintage imagery from medical, health and safety guides, 1918’s flu pandemic photography, wrestling magazines, and lifeguard manuals.
The images I’ve chosen present pervasive themes of rescue, fraternity, fragility, intimacy, grief, and healing. The materials and processes that I use to support and enhance these motifs are wide-ranged and include broken bits of ornament glass, eggshells, rust, plant fibers, rocks, sequins, fire (in the form of pyrography), and digital manipulation."
