Lynn Hanson’s artistic career spans 30 years and a large body of work, with a recurring theme of vessels, ranging from ships to houses to decorative pieces in the home. Her prevailing style, reflecting her family history, is influenced by Scandinavian design, Danish especially. 
 
Her artistic practice involves cold wax and oil paint, building up layers of color to carve into and build again. This process of excavation finds what’s hidden beneath the surface. The texture, somewhat like frosting a cake, can take scrapers, brayers, carving tools, and squeegies to great effect, often creating an element of surprise. Rich colors create a sense of warmth and welcome, whether with oils or across mixed media and acrylic paint, all part of exploring her heritage.
